May the spirit of generosity bless you and inspire us to bless others

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not much of a singer. In fact, some might argue that I can’t sing at all—and honestly, I’d have to agree! Singing isn’t one of the gifts God chose to grant me. However, I do have a deep love for Christmas carols.

Recently, I was chatting with friends about our favourite carols. When it was my turn to share, I mentioned “We Three Kings.” It’s one of the few hymns I’ve ever sung in public. As a young person, I was invited to perform it during a church Christmas concert. The only reason I could manage it was likely because the song lends itself to a deep bass part (or so I believe!). Singing low seemed to be my best option!

But my love for “We Three Kings” isn’t just about its melody. I’ve always been fascinated by the Magi and the gifts they brought to honour Jesus, as told in Matthew’s Gospel. Their offerings—symbols of kingship, divinity, and sacrifice—reflected who they believed Jesus would become. These gifts were given with respect, humility, but also as acts of true generosity.

As I reflect on our community over this past year, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our people — not just from a financial perspective, but in countless other ways. I think of the hosts who offered me a place to stay while I travelled. The small notes, emails or texts of encouragement. The meetings attended to continue to pursue our shared purpose. The many phone calls. The patience and the grace that has been extended as we’ve navigated through numerous challenges together. I think of the intentional prayers, the thoughtful reflections that help others connect with the Holy Spirit. The hours spent driving, practicing, planning—even perhaps rehearsing carols like “We Three Kings.” Thousands upon thousands of volunteer hours have been poured out by so many in this community, all stemming from a deeply embedded sense of call and discipleship.

This generosity reflects the very story we celebrate at Christmas: the birth of Christ, the Prince of Peace. Each step we take on this journey toward Christ does make a difference in the lives of God’s children.

Thank you for your extraordinary generosity and commitment. May we continue to embody that spirit of giving as we celebrate this holy season together. May the spirit of generosity bless each of you and inspire us to bless others.

In Christ,
Adam Wade
